How to use it
Start your music the way you normally would, then come back here and press Go full screen. The controls fade away after a few seconds and the mouse pointer hides, leaving just the snow. Move the mouse or tap the screen to bring the controls back, and press Esc to leave full screen.
Lamplit street is a quiet town at night, with the flakes catching the light under each street lamp. Pine forest has snow-laden trees under the moon. Cabin window puts you indoors, looking out through a frosted window with snow banked against the glass. Turn up the Wind and the snow drifts sideways in gusts; turn up the Snow for anything from a few flurries to a blizzard.
The wind sound is off to start with, because you’re probably playing your own music. Switch it on for a soft winter wind under the music (muffled through the glass in the cabin), or on its own. With the sleep timer set, the snow eases off over the last minute and a half, the wind dies away, then everything stops and your screen is allowed to sleep.
Good places to put it
- A TV. Open this page in the TV’s browser, or cast a Chrome tab to it, and go full screen. Handy for a Christmas in July get-together, or a hot summer night when you’d rather think about snow.
- A second monitor beside your work, for a calm backdrop while you write or study.
- A stream or a listening party. Set it up the way you like, press Copy snow-only link, and use that link as a browser source in OBS. It opens straight into the snow with no buttons, header or text (press Esc to get back to the page).
- A tablet on the bedside table, with the clock on and a sleep timer set.
