Lightning briefly flashes the screen. Leave it off if flashing light affects you.

🔒 Runs entirely in your browser, and keeps working offline once it has loaded. No account, nothing to install — even the rain sound is made on the spot.

How to use it

Start your music the way you normally would, in Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube or a record player, then come back here and press Go full screen. The controls fade away after a few seconds and the mouse pointer hides, so you’re left with just the rain. Move the mouse or tap the screen to bring the controls back, and press Esc to leave full screen. Lightning briefly flashes the screen, so it’s off unless you choose the Storm scene or switch it on, and it stays off on devices set to reduce motion.

Out in the street shows rain falling over the scene, with splashes and ripples on the wet ground. Through the window puts you indoors: drops land on the glass, gather, and run down in little streams while the lights outside blur. Each of the five scenes works with either view.

The rain sound is off to start with, because you’re probably playing your own music. Switch it on if you’d like a little rain under the music, or on its own for focus or sleep. With the sleep timer set, the rain and sound fade out gently over the last minute and a half, then everything stops and your screen is allowed to sleep.

Good places to put it

  • A TV. Open this page in the TV’s browser, or cast a Chrome tab to it, and go full screen.
  • A second monitor beside your work, for a calm backdrop while you write or study.
  • A stream or a listening party. Set it up the way you like, press Copy rain-only link, and use that link as a browser source in OBS. It opens straight into the rain with no buttons, header or text.
  • A tablet on the bedside table, with the clock on and a sleep timer set.
Will it stop my screen from going to sleep?
Yes, while the rain is playing it asks the browser to keep the screen on (most current browsers allow this). Pause it or switch tabs, or let a sleep timer run out, and your screen goes back to its normal sleep settings.
Why is there no sound?
The rain sound is off by default so it doesn’t clash with your music. Tick Rain sound or press the speaker button. On iPhone, check the side silent switch, because it mutes browser audio no matter what the page does.
Does it use a lot of battery?
It’s drawn by your graphics chip and is fairly light. On slower devices it automatically lowers its resolution to stay smooth. The animation pauses on its own when you switch tabs (the rain sound, if it’s on, keeps playing), and the sound engine shuts down completely whenever the sound is off. For a laptop running on battery, a lighter rain setting uses the least power.
Full screen doesn’t work on my iPhone
iPhone browsers don’t let web pages go truly full screen, so the rain fills the whole browser window instead. For the most screen, turn the phone sideways.
Does it work without the internet?
Yes. The first time you open the page, your browser saves a copy (the chip next to the buttons says Saved for offline use when it’s done). After that the rain screen opens and plays with no connection, which is handy on a plane, when camping, or when the Wi-Fi drops. When you’re back online it quietly picks up any updates. Only this page and the files it needs (its styles, scripts, fonts and logo) are saved, and you can remove them any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Can I save my favourite setup?
Your last scene, view and settings are remembered on this device. Copy link to this setup gives you a link that opens with exactly those settings, which is handy for a bookmark, another device, or OBS.
Is anything recorded or sent anywhere?
Nothing you do here is sent anywhere. The rain, the lightning and the sound are all generated in your browser, there’s no account, and your settings are only stored on your own device. Like the rest of our site, the page itself uses Google Fonts and counts visits with Google Analytics (see our privacy policy).
