🔒 Runs entirely in your browser, and keeps working offline once it has loaded. No account, nothing to install — even the crackle is made on the spot.

How to use it

Start your music the way you normally would, then come back here and press Go full screen. The controls fade away after a few seconds and the mouse pointer hides, leaving just the fire. Move the mouse or tap the screen to bring the controls back, and press Esc to leave full screen.

The Fire slider goes from a bed of glowing embers to a roaring blaze, and the light on the walls and logs rises and falls with the flames. Campfire moves you outdoors: a ring of stones under a starry sky, with the sparks drifting higher and a little smoke.

The crackle is off to start with, because you’re probably playing your own music. Switch it on for a soft roar and crackle under the music, or on its own. With the sleep timer set, the fire burns down to embers over the last minute and a half, the crackle fades away, then everything stops and your screen is allowed to sleep.

Good places to put it

  • A TV. Open this page in the TV’s browser, or cast a Chrome tab to it, and go full screen. It’s a fireplace for a room that doesn’t have one.
  • A second monitor beside your work, for something warm in the corner of your eye.
  • A stream or a listening party. Set it up the way you like, press Copy fire-only link, and use that link as a browser source in OBS. It opens straight into the fire with no buttons, header or text (press Esc to get back to the page).
  • A tablet on the bedside table, with the clock on and the fire set to burn down.
Will it stop my screen from going to sleep?
Yes, while the fire is playing it asks the browser to keep the screen on (most current browsers allow this). Pause it or switch tabs, or let a sleep timer run out, and your screen goes back to its normal sleep settings.
Why is there no sound?
The crackle is off by default so it doesn’t clash with your music. Tick Crackle sound or press the speaker button. On iPhone, check the side silent switch, because it mutes browser audio no matter what the page does.
Does it work without the internet?
Yes. The first time you open the page, your browser saves a copy (the chip next to the buttons says Saved for offline use when it’s done). After that the fireplace opens and plays with no connection. When you’re back online it quietly picks up any updates. Only this page and the files it needs (its styles, scripts, fonts and logo) are saved, and you can remove them any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Does it use a lot of battery?
It’s drawn by your graphics chip and is fairly light. On slower devices it automatically lowers its resolution to stay smooth. The animation pauses on its own when you switch tabs (the crackle, if it’s on, keeps playing), and the sound engine shuts down completely whenever the sound is off. A smaller fire uses the least power.
Full screen doesn’t work on my iPhone
iPhone browsers don’t let web pages go truly full screen, so the fire fills the whole browser window instead. For the most screen, turn the phone sideways.
Can I save my favourite setup?
Your last scene and settings are remembered on this device. Copy link to this setup gives you a link that opens with exactly those settings, which is handy for a bookmark or another device.
Is anything recorded or sent anywhere?
Nothing you do here is sent anywhere. The fire and the crackle are generated in your browser, there’s no account, and your settings are only stored on your own device. Like the rest of our site, the page itself uses Google Fonts and counts visits with Google Analytics (see our privacy policy).
