What BMI does and doesn’t tell you
Body Mass Index is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared. It’s a quick population-level screen used by health services worldwide, and it’s handy for spotting a trend. But it’s a blunt instrument: a very muscular person can read as “overweight” while carrying little fat, and it doesn’t consider where body fat sits. Treat the number as a conversation starter, not a diagnosis.
